As we all know, McDonald's is all around the world - and they have so many yummy dishes to try, depending on the country you're in! And - in India - it's literally a HAVEN for vegetarians with all of the different offerings!
Fun fact: I was vegetarian for ~7 years, and I still prefer vegetarian food over non-veg!
One of my favorite recipes at McDonald's in India is the McPaneer Burger. Spicy, crunchy and hearty, I so wish they had this over here! But, that leads me to discovering a recipe that I adapted to my taste!
My boys love this burger so it's a repeat in my household. Hope your family enjoys it as much as mine!
Recipe makes 5 burgers (note: each burger is super filling!)
Paneer - 5 squared slices, about 1/2 inch thick
Oil for deep frying
Hamburger buns
Butter to toast buns
Ingredients for batter:
5 Tbsp All Purpose Flour
2 Tbsp red chilli powder
2 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp Trader Joes Chili Lime Seasoning
Salt to taste (I used about 2 tsp)
Water (about 1/2 cup - see directions)
Ingredients for coating:
1/2 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
1/2 cup flaming hot cheetos, crushed to a powder
Toppings (Optional): Onions, Lettuce, Cheese, Perinaise (Nando's Peri-peri Mayo!)
Directions:
Heat oil at medium high heat in a pan, about 1.5 inches deep to allow for deep frying
Mix all ingredients for the batter. Slowly add water to get to the right consistency - batter should be slightly thicker than pancake batter.
Mix ingredients for the coating and keep aside
Dip each patty into the batter and then into the coating. Cover completely on both sides
Place in pan to deep fry - approximately 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown
Assemble burger: spread butter on buns and lightly toast. Add Perinaise, lettuce and any other toppings. Top off with bun and enjoy!
